For decades now there have been debates as to whether mind stimulants do more harm than good with long-term use. The main components within a mind stimulant are those that increase the flow of “feel-good” natural chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins. When a person who already has the proper amounts of the above-mentioned chemicals consumes a mind stimulant, there is an overflow of these chemicals and the person tends to feel euphoric, over-confident and invincible. This in turn helps with creativity for the person who might have some self-esteem issues when sober.
There are many celebrities and creative people in the past who swore by mind stimulants as being the true heroes behind their work. They praised these substances as being boosters or enhancers of their creative streak. There is still no evidence that remotely suggests that there is a connection between mind stimulants. What could be the viable factor however, is the way the chemicals work the neurotransmitters in the brain and erase any feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. Hence, when a person consumes a mind stimulant, he feels creative and begins to produce work that actually was in him all along, but was masked by his human feelings of being scared and rejected.
The sad side effect of mind stimulants is that once “sober”, the user begins to psychologically convince himself that he is not good enough unless he has consumed the substance. This inner feelings translates to the person feeling depressed unless he swallows another mind stimulant. This type of effect has a psychological as well as a physiological effect. While the absence of these chemicals DO cause a change in the secretion of feel-good hormones, it can be counter-acted with positive emotions and following a healthier lifestyle.
